Joseph Borelli

District 51 City Councilmember

Joe Borelli has represented the South Shore of Staten Island in the New York City Council since November of 2015. Prior to that, he served as the Member of the State Assembly from the 62nd District since 2013.

In the Council, Borelli serves as the Minority Whip, and is a member of the committees on Economic Development, Government Operations, Mental Health & Substance Abuse, Technology, Waterfronts, and Veteran’s Affairs.

As a member of the Assembly, he served as the Ranking Member of the Cities Committee, and on the Committees on Health, Energy and Housing. He was constantly the most conservative member of the legislature from New York City according to the Conservative Party’s annual ratings.

Borelli is a lecturer of Political Science at the City University of New York, and is also well known for media appearances on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, NBC, NY1, WPIX11, FOX5, RTE – Ireland, Sky News, The Blaze, Breitbart Radio, AM970, 770WOR, and Quartz media, as well as being published in the New York Daily News and NYSlant.

As a volunteer, Borelli serves on the Development Board of St. Joseph by the Sea High School, and previously on the boards of the Friends of the College of Staten Island and the Bini Foundation. He is also a former member of NYC’s Voter Assistance Commission and the Staten Island Transportation Task Force.

Borelli holds a B.A. in History from Marist College and an M.A. from the City University of New York. He was listed as one of City and State magazine’s 40 Under 40 Albany Rising Stars in 2013, and the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation’s 20 under 40.

As a native Staten Islander, Borelli has lived on the South Shore his entire life and currently lives in Annadale with his wife, Rachel, son Joe Jr., and English Bulldog Luna. He is a parishioner at Holy Child Church.
